In 1563 he married Melchora de Aberrucia, who was Alonso Valiente's widow, and thereby disposed the encomienda of Tecamachalco. Together they gave birth to Rodrigo de Vivero y Aberrucia, who became the first Count of the Valley of Orizaba and Spanish interim governor of the Philippines .
